The North Toledo Bend Rendezvous - Friday Oct. 31st thru Sunday. Nov.2

The GCC, along with the Texas Council of the IFFF, annually co-sponsors the "North Toledo Bend Rendezvous".  Held the first weekend of November at North Toledo Bend State Park near Zwolle, LA, the 2013 Rendezvous was the 25th anniversary (since 1989) of this gathering of fly tyers representing fly fishing clubs from Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and beyond.  With no planned activities, but plenty of fly tying, food, fly casting instruction and fly fishing, and with only a minimal fee to cover lodging and meals, the North Toledo Bend Rendezvous remains one of the top tying events held each year in the U.S.A.

http://pages.suddenlink.net/w/Rendez/indexR.html

If you have never attended the North Toledo Bend Rendezvous or haven't been in a while, your are hereby invited to attend... Hey, we haven't gathered on the shores of Toledo Bend and thrown this party for 26 years for nothing!!! We have a great time, and it is your chance to sit down and tie flies with some of the very best tyers in the Deep South! No matter if you are  beginner to tying or a master of this craft, you will learn a lot (or at least have fun tying with your friends &/or teaching others), and you will have fun!

Is it time?

I stopped by a local pond on the way home Thursday afternoon and thought I would try a #12 popper on my BVK 3 wt.  I was pleasantly surprised!  I caught 6 or 7 small bass and a few small bream.  Yeah, I know they were small but, what a hoot on the 3 wt.  Could it be that the weather is getting right for much overdue real fishing?  I sure hope so....

Dr. Ed Rizzolo Fly Tying Festival

Dr. Ed Rizzolo Fly Tying Festival
Many of you will notice a change in the name of Texas FlyFishers Annual Fly Tying Festival. At the 2009 17th annual festival, it was proclaimed that henceforth the festival would be known as the Dr. Ed Rizzolo Fly Tying Festival as a tribute to Ed for his being the one responsible for getting it started back when.
Now that the "formalities" are out of the way...........
The Festival Details
Ladies and gentlemen, the Texas FlyFishers would like to invite you to attend our 23nd Annual Dr. Ed Rizzolo Fly Tying Festival on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Bethany Christian Church, located at 3223 Westheimer, Houston, Texas. The hours will be from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm.
This year's featured guest will be Charlie Craven, owner and president of Charlie's Fly Box fly shop in Arvada, Colorado. Charlie Craven tied his first fly from a gifted fly tying kit on his eighth birthday. In the days since he has commercially tied flies for most of the shops in the Denver area, as well as many others throughout the Rocky Mountain west. A longtime South Platte River guide, Craven cut his angling teeth on some of the toughest trout in the world. It was these tough fish that prompted him to develop some of his more popular patterns like the Jujubee Midge, Poison Tung and Charlie Boy Hopper.
Charlie at the vice.

Charlie has now been a commercial fly tyer for over thirty years, and in that time has tied flies for nearly every species of game fish in every location on the planet, though he specializes in trout flies for the Rocky Mountain region. Charlie is a Signature Tyer for Umpqua Feather Merchants and is the originator of other popular patterns such as the Jujubaetis, the Ragina Craven, Two Bit Hooker and the Double Gonga. Craven was the photographer and fly tyer for Barr Flies (Stackpole 2007) and has now authored two books, Charlie Craven's Basic Fly Tying (Headwater Books 2008) and Charlie's Fly Box (Stackpole Books 2010). Craven is also the Fly Tyer's Bench contributor to Flyfisherman Magazine.
Charlie is a Colorado native and lives in Arvada, Colorado. He has three kids, Charlie, Julie and Jack.
