Bayou Teche Wooden Boat Show

The Bayou Teche Wooden Boat Show runs this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in  beautiful downtown Frankin, Louisiana along Parc sur la Teche!  The festival features all the activities associated with a typical Louisiana festival, music, food, and good company, but also includes field trips, educational exhibits and children’s activities relating to bears and the many other natural resources found in south Louisiana.

Pete Cooper, Jr. "Surf Fishing for Specks". Pete is a professional fisherman and full-time freelance outdoor writer from Buras, Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. Elected to the Louisiana Sportsman's Hall of Fame in 2003, Cooper has taught statewide seminars on fly fishing and has published numerous articles in state, regional and national magazines. He is considered a pioneer of saltwater fly fishing in Louisiana.

Denis North. "Fishing for Crappie". Denis is an expert at crappie, sac-a-lait, white perch (you pick), having fished competitively since 1972. He has fished national, regional and local tournament circuits including B.A.S.S., BFL, Fishers of Men, ABA and Bass Champs. Dennis has been fishing and guiding on Caddo Lake for more than 30 years. Dennis also manufactures CrawClicker rattles.

"Speed Casting for Red Fish" with Bob Tabbert and Keith Richard. Keith, of Breaux Bridge, LA is a certified Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF) Master-Certified Casting Instructor and owner of The Camp Fly Fishing School.  He has a lifetime of freshwater and saltwater fishing experiences all along the gulf coast.  His website thecampflyfishingschool.com contains tips for beginners and advanced casters alike.  He has previously served as Vice President of the Gulf Coast Council and President of Acadiana Fly Rodders. Bob is a retired exploration geologist who winters in south Louisiana with the Acadiana Fly Rodders teaching casting and chasing red fish with a fly rod. He summers in a cabin up in northern Wisconsin with Trout Unlimited where he teaches casting and watches out for Wisconsin’s native brook trout.   Bob is a life member of Trout Unlimited and the Federation of Fly Fishers.  He holds an FFF Casting Certification Instructors ticket, teaching casting and performing conservation work within the FFF and TU programs.   He is active in FFF’s native fish conservation projects and is currently Chair of FFF’s Cold Water Committee. Fly fishing, conservation and teaching casting are his passions.

Fishing Plastics by  Judy Wong .  Judy is a Pro Bass Fisherman and Fishing guide on Toledo Bend Lake. She is a 2010 “Legends of the Outdoors” National Hall of Fame Inductee, 2009, 2007 Woman’s Bassmaster Tour Champion, 2002, 2001, Woman’s Bass Fishing Assoc Champion, Winner of 3 National Tournaments, 18-time Classic Champion Qualifier.  Wild Life Artist. 

Jeff Guerin.  "Fishing the Little Mo".  Jeff is a professional guide and casting instructor on Arkansas' Little Missouri River. Nestled in the Ouachita Mountains, the Little Mo is one of the southernmost year-round trout fisheries in the country.  Check out his website at http://www.littlemissouriflyfishing.com.

Catch Cormier, "Fishing from Kayak and Canoe".  Catch Cormier is columnist for Louisiana Sportsman magazine and kayak field reporter for Outdoors with Don Dubuc radio show, and a founding member of the Bayou Coast Kayak Fishing Club.  It’s been said that if he sees a puddle of water, he’ll fling a fly in it. To be held at Chaplin Lake, next to Prather Coliseum.

Bill Heugel, "Fish Senses".  Bill, an accomplished warmwater fly angler and fly tier, will give an informative program about what fish see, hear, taste, feel and smell.  You can’t help but catch a fish when you learn all their sense secrets.

Classes

Beginner Fly Casting Instruction conducted by Certified Casting Instructors. For men and women. Equipment provided. $10 per session.  Morning and afternoon classes offered.  Email one of the contacts to reserve your place in class.

Cooking Class by Executive Chef Chris Levy, featuring a Creole Brunch.
Held at the beautiful Sweet Cane Inn, just minutes from the expo.
